The NDC’s New Hope: Senior Lecturer Joins Navrongo Parliamentary Race

Dr. Jacob Paarechuga Anankware, a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Horticulture and Crop Production at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), has picked up a form to contest in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries for Navrongo central constituency.

Dr. Anankware has been an active member of the NDC. He served as the TEIN Patron at the University of Energy and Natural Resources from 2018 to date and was a member of the Upper East Regional NDC Election monitoring team for the 2020 election. He also served as a campaign team member for the Navrongo Central Constituency and the Sunyani East Constituency in the same election. Furthermore, he is the NDC Communication Officer at Pungu Primary No.1 branch.
Dr. Anankware’s political involvement extends beyond the NDC, as he financed the party in the 2016 election by buying a Land Rover Defender and contributing money for motorbikes to the Navrongo Central Constituency.
Dr. Anankware is renowned in academia with a wealth of experience. He has authored over 35 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology from the University for Development Studies, an M.Phil. in Entomology from the University of Ghana, a Ph.D. in Entomology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Additionally, he has completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan, USA, and was a 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow at Purdue University, USA, as well as a 2018 Humboldt Scholar at the Humboldt University in Germany.
Dr. Anankware’s work experience is also impressive, having served as a teaching assistant at the University for Development Studies and as a consultant at Vestergaard Frandsen (Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research), Legon. He has also held the position of Deputy Country Director of Fish for Africa and was the Country Director of Aspire Food Group in 2014.
Dr. Anankware has won various grants, including a $7000.00 grant to develop a natural control for major insect pests and a US$11,500.00 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to further improve his previous research on insect pests. He has also helped raise about €3 million Euros from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Swiss National Science Foundation.
With his impressive credentials and extensive political involvement, Dr. Anankware is a strong contender for the Navrongo central constituency seat.

    We wish him good luck but whoever the NDC presents for the Navrongo central seat will be defeated. NPP has corrected its mistakes and is ready to take back the seat from ndc come 2014.
