The Navrongo police commander is alleged to have made comments concerning armed robbery cases in the Municipality which the youth viewed the comments to be insulting to them. Kassena-Nankana Municipal Police Commander, DSP Oppong Agyare Francis was quoted by mynewsgh.com to have said, the rising armed robbery cases in the town can be blamed on the youth who spend long hours in bushes smooching their girlfriend’s whiles leaving their motorbikes to the mercy of thieves.
This news publication has seen a lot of Backlash from the youth of Navrongo and beyond. Mark Boldkid Kubuga, a social media commentator among other youth, took to social media to express their displeasure about the comments made by the police commander. Many were hoping to see a rejoinder from the NAVRONGO divisional police command to the alleged statement but have since not seen any.
in a document signed by Boldkid to the IGP, He expressed his concern about the rising theft and robbery cases in the town and also, to add salt to injury, the distasteful comments made by the divisional police commander. Boldkid in the document seek to draw the IGP attention to the rising insecurity in the town and also request for the immediate transfer of the police commander for inefficiency among other things.

As at the time of this publication 11/03/2021, Boldkid notified Timbiagh that he received a reply email from the Interior ministry and the office of the IGP.
The upper East region has suffered a lot of insecurity issues ranging from armed robbery, stealing, and murder cases in the past 2 months. The KASSENA NANKANA Municipal and KASSENA NANKANA west Municipal both in the upper East region suffered much of the devastating insecurity in the region.
Most of the robbery incidences were reported by Ghanaweb. There was a robbery incident that resulted in a middle-aged man being shot to death and his motorbike taken away. Two Suspected thieves were also lynched in kologu in connection with a robbery incident.
Recently, mobile money merchants, have been attacked and robbed of their money. This has resulted in the chief of Navrongo calling the police commander to respond to the state of insecurity in the town. People now live in fear, and can’t freely move about their daily duties.
